Controlled Substance Policy
At DT Pediatrics, our priority is providing safe, responsible, and evidence-based pediatric care. This policy outlines our position regarding controlled substances.
What Is a Controlled Substance?
A controlled substance is a medication regulated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) under the Controlled Substances Act due to its potential for misuse, dependency, or abuse.

This includes:

If a patient requires evaluation or treatment involving controlled substances, we will recommend consultation with an appropriate in-person provider or specialist.

Why We Do Not Prescribe Controlled Substances
As a pediatric telehealth practice, we prioritize:
-
Patient safety
-
Appropriate monitoring
-
Compliance with federal and state regulations
-
Responsible prescribing practices
Controlled substances often require in-person evaluation, ongoing monitoring, and specific regulatory documentation that cannot be adequately fulfilled in our telehealth-only setting.
Alternative Care
DT Pediatrics is happy to:
-
Provide non-controlled medication options when appropriate
-
Offer behavioral strategies and supportive care
-
Coordinate care with your child’s primary care provider or specialist
-
Provide referrals when needed
